Two young men aged 24 and 21, resident in the province of Napoli and with criminal records, were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Castelraimondo Station in collaboration with the Operational Unit of the Camerino Company. The two were headed to Matelica with the intention of carrying out the fraud of the "fake nephew” against an eighty-year-old woman.
The scam, now sadly widespread, was foiled thanks to the timely intervention of the police. The elderly woman had previously been contacted by a man who had passed himself off as her grandson, telling her that he was in serious financial difficulty and asking for financial help. The worried woman had already prepared several precious objects for delivery, including jewelry of sentimental value, memories of a lifetime.
The Carabinieri, notified in time, immediately went to the lady's house, finding the goods ready to be delivered to the scammers. After reassuring the elderly woman, explaining that it was an attempted scam and that her real grandson was not in any danger, the military stopped the two criminals in the center of Castelraimondo. The scammers were arrested on suspicion of crime and are now awaiting validation of the arrest at the Court of Macerata.
