Milan Napoli Fonseca – After the home defeat against Napoli, Paulo Fonseca analyzed Milan’s performance with clarity and confidence to the microphones of Milan TV and DAZN, reiterating both the team’s progress and the need for greater concreteness. “If we look at the result, they scored two goals and we none, despite the chances created,” explained Fonseca. “We conceded after just five minutes, but the reaction was positive, playing quality football. Napoli dropped back, but we managed to apply pressure, creating a good number of chances. However, they converted theirs, unfortunately we didn’t.”
The Rossoneri coach then added that he takes full responsibility for the result, acknowledging the need to limit the errors that led to the goals conceded: "I am responsible for what happens on the pitch. In every goal we conceded there was a mistake, and we cannot allow ourselves to be careless against a team like Napoli. However, we reacted with quality, even if we lacked concreteness in 4 or 5 important occasions that we created."
Fonseca he does not seek alibis for the absences, while recognizing the importance of some missing players: "I don't like to talk about the absentees. Of course, important players were missing, but those who took to the field gave their all. We are a united team, and I'm sure that, playing like this, the future will be positive." Looking at the standings, the coach remains confident and discards premature concerns about the title: “Talking about the Scudetto? I can’t say otherwise, but I don’t remember any team winning or losing a championship after just 9 games. The road is still long and there’s still a lot to do.”
Finally, Fonseca insisted on the importance of collective growth: "I prefer to talk about the team and not the individuals. Of course, there were mistakes in the two goals, but we have to continue working because we still have room for improvement." With these words, the Portuguese coach reiterates his confidence in the group and his belief that, despite difficulties and setbacks, Milan is on the right path to reach its seasonal objectives.
