Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi says it is necessary to protect Naples with a broad approach that includes more officers and cameras, but also the fight against school dropouts.

He does so in an interview with “Il Mattino” in which he states that Naples is a “a city growing culturally and economically”, and which in recent years has seen a “positive increase in civic sense”, capable of overcoming “any form of resignation”.

Naples, he says, is a city that looks to the future and has been able to “enhance its millenary beauty” And its “cultural, landscape and architectural resources”.

After three murders among very young people, a summit was organized in Naples. “We have laid the foundations for an extraordinary plan of interventions,” says Crying himself. Local institutions are committed to finding the necessary resources.

The first reinforcements of the police force will arrive by Christmas

“We expect a further strengthening of the police force: 479 new units of the State Police and the Carabinieri will be assigned, which will be added to the 741 operators already assigned this year. The first reinforcements will arrive as early as Christmas”.

Crying himself he then spoke about video surveillance systems: “We will strengthen existing systems with over 300 new cameras, and we will continue along this line in 2025 thanks to the resources provided for in the budget law”.

The latest news stories occurred between midnight and dawn: "The plan will specifically concern the night hours and weekdays and the areas most affected by these criminal episodes. An extraordinary effort will be necessary especially during the Christmas and New Year holidays to effectively combat these phenomena."

Despite these episodes, Naples is experiencing an extraordinary civil, cultural and economic growth: “The availability of weapons among young people, especially minors, represents a dramatic reality, especially in Naples and its hinterland. These phenomena are not always directly linked to organized crime, but they are no less insidious for that.”

Piantedosi: “Disarmament of the kids is the main objective”

The minister also stressed that “Disarmament of young people is the main objective. In addition to law enforcement operations, there is also much to be done on an educational and cultural level to address youth distress. We are already seeing positive results in the fight against school dropouts, with a significant decrease”.

With the arrival of numerous tourists for the Christmas holidays, Piantedosi praised Naples' ability to enhance its millenary beauty, its cultural, landscape and architectural resources: “There is no reason not to consider it a highly attractive tourist destination.”

On the subject of weapons, he added: “Investigators are busy intercepting and interrupting the supply channels of weapons, which sometimes come from thefts.”

Finally, he mentioned the importance of offering points of reference to young people in the most problematic areas, such as in the Sanità district, where in the structure of the San Gennaro Foundation, directed by Don Antonio Loffredo, a gym managed by the sports group of the Fiamme Oro of the State Police is already active, which promotes the culture of legality through sport.
