The City Council has given the green light to the acquisition of the Flaminio Cinema, with the only vote against being the 5 Star Movement. The announcement comes directly from Mayor Giorgio Zinno, who celebrates a historic moment for the city: this space, a symbol of culture, sociality and entertainment for decades, will be transformed into a cinema, public at the service of the community.
The project includes, after authorization, the start of the procedures for taking out a mortgage and completing the acquisition by the end of the year through a notarial deed. Subsequently, the work of adapting the hall will proceed to return it to the public.
“Our idea – explains the Mayor Zinno – is to revive the Flaminio respecting its history, but with an eye to the future. We aim to rebuild a modern theater space, a point of reference for the many cultural realities of the territory.”
The City Council will be subsequently involved to define the management methods, which according to the intentions of the administration must be public. Only public management, in fact, can guarantee a careful analysis of the needs of the territory, with an eye to the common good.
The Cinema Flaminio is an integral part of the collective memory of San Giorgio a Cremano. For years it has hosted generations of spectators, providing emotions on the big screen and through theatrical performances. For too long, however, its lights have been turned off, leaving a void in the city and in its cultural offerings.
The new cinema-theater, with a capacity of 500 seats, will be a multifunctional space: in addition to theater performances and film screenings, it will host events, conferences and training activities. “It will be a place to be proud of, a symbol of culture, sociality and memory for our city,” Zinno emphasized.
“We don’t just want to revive the Cinema Flaminio, but reinvent it,” adds the Mayor, “to make it a hub for the Troisi Award, school projects, and the activities of local associations. With the support of the City Council and the joint work of the administration and technical offices, we have laid the foundations for an ambitious project: to transform the Flaminio into an accessible, inclusive, and high-quality cultural venue.”
