A new plan for urban safety is starting in Salerno, an ambitious project that aims not only to combat youth distress and the formation of baby gangs, but also to improve the quality of life in the city. The initiative, funded by the Ministry of the Interior through the Prefecture of Salerno, involves social workers and educators who will work closely with young people.

The project, created thanks to the collaboration between the Departments of Social and Youth Policies, Security and the Social Policies sector of the Municipality of Salerno, together with the Municipal Police, has clear objectives: to prevent risky situations, promote a sense of community and ensure greater safety in the municipal area.
Among the main initiatives are: monitoring and control of the territory, the implementation of new hardware and software technologies for a more efficient and computerized management of the Municipal Police operations center; training and awareness, educational workshops and training courses aimed at young people to promote legality and civil coexistence.
But also urban redevelopment, interventions aimed at enhancing public spaces and returning them to the community, with particular attention to the needs of the youngest; active participation, creation of dialogue networks between institutions and citizens, to encourage discussion and direct involvement of the population.
A concrete step towards an inclusive city
“Attention to urban safety is a crucial element for community well-being,” underlined by the Municipality. “This project represents an important step forward towards a safer and more welcoming city, where every citizen can feel protected and valued.” The first initiatives will start the day after tomorrow, December 20, and will continue with a series of public meetings throughout 2025, during which citizens will be invited to share ideas and suggestions to further improve the plan.

It's a great project but I wonder if it will really work. The initiatives are good but it would also take more funding and support from the government to make a difference. We hope that young people will participate actively.
