PARIS - “Facial trauma with multiple wounds.” This is the first diagnosis from the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff on the condition of Gianluigi Donnarumma, victim of a violent collision during the match against Monaco. The accident, caused by the right boot of Wilfried Singo – formerly of Torino – left the PSG and Italian national team goalkeeper with a cut to his face that required ten stitches.
The images of the injury, with Donnarumma bleeding, quickly went viral on the web, causing concern among fans and football enthusiasts. Having returned to Paris late in the evening with the team, Donnarumma underwent an initial medical assessment yesterday, which confirmed the severity of the blow.
As reported in the bulletin of the PSG, the goalkeeper will undergo further checks for “assess the extent of the blow and visible facial injuries.” The club added that Donnarumma will have to observe a period of forced rest for several days, thus ending his 2024 football season early.
A few hours after the incident, Singo's public apology arrived via Instagram: “I want to apologize to Gianluigi Donnarumma. My gesture was obviously not voluntary. Only later was I able to see the extent of the wound. I wish you a speedy recovery.”

It's very sad news what happened to Donnarumma. I hope he gets better soon and can return to play with PSG. Injuries are always ugly to see, especially in an important match like this.
