Santa Maria Capua Vetere was the scene of a daring attempted theft last night. Around 3:10, a patrol of the Radiomobile Section of the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Company was alerted to a theft in progress at the Globo Supermarket, located in via Galatina.
As the Carabinieri were heading towards the crime scene, taking Via dei Romani, they found themselves faced with an unexpected situation. A Mazda 3, with several people on board, suddenly accelerated at the sight of the Gazelle, blinding the officers with its high beams. In a reckless maneuver, the driver aimed the car at the Carabinieri car, ramming it violently.
Thrown by the collision, the Gazelle ended up off the road, while the Mazda, damaged in the impact, continued its escape for a few meters before stopping abruptly. Taking advantage of the confusion, the criminals got out of the car and disappeared into the night, leaving no trace.
Inside the abandoned Mazda, the Carabinieri found the safe stolen from the supermarket. Inside, a loot of about 20.000 euros. The money, probably intended to finance other illegal activities, was promptly seized.
The Carabinieri, although they suffered minor injuries from the impact, were discharged after treatment at the Aversa Hospital. Despite their fright and injuries, the Carabinieri demonstrated great professionalism and courage, managing to recover the loot and save the community.
The investigations, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, are underway. The Carabinieri are analyzing the images from the surveillance cameras in the area and acquiring testimonies to identify those responsible for this daring robbery. In addition, the descriptions of the fugitives have been released, with the aim of involving the citizens in the search.
