The city of Naples is preparing to celebrate one of its most beloved poets, Salvatore Di Giacomo. On the occasion of the ninetieth anniversary of his death, a mural dedicated to him will be created, an initiative that aims to keep his cultural legacy alive and pass it on to new generations.
The project, promoted by the Erre Erre Eventi Association of Battipaglia and supported by the Campania Region as part of the “Plan for the promotion and valorization of culture 2024”, will see the light thanks to the talent of two artists: Antonio Cotecchia, aka Kotè, known for his vibrant mural interpretations of large faces, and the young Neapolitan artist Giovanni Anastasia, who will take care of the transcription of one of Di Giacomo's famous poems.
The work will be created on the facade of the Liceo Statale “Piero Calamandrei” in Ponticelli, a symbolic choice that underlines the importance of involving the younger generations in the valorization of the local cultural heritage. The school principal, Vincenzo Falco, expressed great enthusiasm for the initiative, underlining how culture is a fundamental tool for building a better future and for ensuring that the beauty and poetry of Naples continue to inspire.
The mural, in addition to being a tribute to Di Giacomo, represents an opportunity to redevelop an area of the city and make it more lively and welcoming. Art, in fact, has the power to transform urban spaces, making them places of meeting, exchange and reflection.
