As the title suggests, the Iranian parliament has expressed its intention to amend the much-maligned bill that toughened sanctions against women who do not wear the veil.
Even Masoud Pezeshkian, the reformist president, has expressed serious doubts about the bill in question. The bill consists of 74 articles and about which the Iranian press has spread the following news: it would provide for 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of the equivalent of 5.700 euros for anyone who incites nudity or indecency. If the fines are not paid within 10 days, those affected will be forced to leave the country.
Furthermore, the police will be able to use Artificial Intelligence to help identify women without veils.
In early December, Pezeshkian had vehemently highlighted the inconsistencies in the text of the new law. According to Amnesty International, the law would be decidedly damaging to women's rights because it would introduce the death penalty, flogging, prison sentences and severe sanctions to break resistance to the compulsory veil.

Reading this article I realized that there are many things that do not add up. The law seems exaggerated and only creates fear among people. I do not understand how one can think of solving problems with such harsh sanctions.
