The reconstruction plan for the municipalities of Ischia most affected by the calamitous events of recent years has been officially adopted by the Campania Region. The document, published yesterday in the public notice boards, details the methods of reconstruction of the inhabited centers of Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno and Forio, marked by the 2017 earthquake and the devastating landslide of 2022.
In the coming days, the population will be called to examine the plan through special city councils and a press conference organized by the Region. The document, which regulates the reconstruction of damaged buildings and the redevelopment of the territory, will be open to observations and modifications by citizens within 60 days.
Among the most significant measures, the absolute ban on building in Celario, the area most affected by the landslide of 2022, and the need to relocate buildings constructed in the riverbeds of Mount Epomeo, stand out. The plan also provides for a classification of buildings based on the degree of damage and the subdivision of the territory into homogeneous zones for seismic, hydrogeological and hydraulic risk.
According to estimates, about 326 buildings, mainly residential, will have to be demolished and rebuilt in safer areas. A challenge that is not only technical, but also social, and that will involve hundreds of islanders.
“The reconstruction plan for Ischia represents a significant step forward,” said the vice president of the Campania Region, Fulvio Bonavitacola. “A complex and innovative document that takes into account both the needs of the population and the need to mitigate the hydrogeological risk.”
The wait is now for the next public meetings, where citizens will be able to express their opinions and help define the future of the island.
