The Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) and the professional players of Taranto Football Club 1927, playing in Serie C, have officially called a strike for Monday 27 January.
The decision comes in response to an unsustainable financial situation: the players have not yet received their accrued monthly salaries and have no certainty about the future of their sporting activity. A note released by the AIC states that, since the state of agitation was declared, no concrete response has been received from the Apulian club.
“All is quiet,” the press release states, highlighting the urgency of putting an end to an abnormal and unsustainable condition for the players. The decision to call a strike represents, for the players, a necessary act to draw attention to the serious economic situation and to demand respect for their labor rights.
The players also announced that the state of agitation will continue if the salary arrears are not remedied by Tuesday, January 28. Monday's strike highlights a recurring problem in Italian football, particularly in the lower categories, where clubs often struggle to guarantee regular payments, with serious consequences for their members.
