An animated rendering shows the new look that the Piazza will take on: an open space, ready to welcome many more people and activities
The ambitious restyling project of Piazza Municipio is coming to life Amalfi for which the Municipal Administration, led by Mayor Daniele Milano, has arranged funding of 1 million and 400 thousand euros.
"The new Piazza Municipio - says the Mayor of Amalfi, Daniele Milano - will present itself as an open environment, which will enhance the opportunities for citizens and our guests to meet and gather. The progress of the works already makes clear the new unitary space that will be created: today, through an animated rendering, we show the citizens the new look that the Piazza will wear in some of its possible uses".
The redevelopment project – currently underway – includes the moving and relocation of the War Memorial built in the 30s in the same square, the recovery and reuse of the existing historic paving in Vesuvian lava stone, as well as the kerbs and all the elements, the excavation with the setting back of the steps leading to the portico of the Town Hall, the construction of sidewalks and the supply of movable furniture.
Added to this are the construction of a lift serving the Town Hall to overcome the architectural barriers of the building, street furniture interventions such as flower boxes and benches, renovation of the sewage, rainwater collection, electrical and lighting systems.
"The work has been going on intensely for about four months. In this first phase - explains Matteo Bottone, deputy mayor with responsibility for Public Works - the dismantling of the War Memorial and the foundation works necessary for its new relocation have been carried out, as well as the excavation of the basin, the construction of the utilities in Largo della Zecca with the reworking and assembly of a good part of the pavement with the related curbs and sidewalks. The sidewalk that connects Piazza Municipio with Salita Roberto il Guiscardo is also almost finished".
