Naples. In recent weeks, the Prefecture of Naples has issued 9 more anti-mafia interdictions.
These latest recent measures are in addition to the 120 in the first half of 2024, a figure that the prefect of Napoli, Michele di Bari, had provided during the conference held last July 24th.
“This number, of such significant importance, denotes the maximum attention of the State for the purposes of protecting the legal economy and demonstrates that the initiatives to strengthen the actions of contrast aim to make the fight against the expansion of criminal associations increasingly incisive, especially in such a critical territory as that of the Metropolitan City of Naples”, reads a note from the prefecture.
The prohibitory decrees have affected, the note continues, "various types of activities (including, in particular, the construction sector, funeral services, waste management, to name a few areas at very high risk of infiltration) and have often intercepted groups of companies attributable to criminal families who, although "specialized" in some prevalent activities, diversify their investments also in smaller or silent companies in which capital from illicit proceeds has been invested or in which the various family branches are involved, in an intricate network of co-participations and shared interests".
Thirty-four measures issued concern activities based in Naples; the others in the entire province. From January 2024 to today, "a total of 129 prohibitory measures have been adopted;
115 are newly issued provisions while only 14 provisions are confirmations of previous impedimental provisions. This does not mean that we have limited ourselves to slavishly reproducing previously issued decrees;
Indeed, following requests for updates from companies or in compliance with provisions of the Administrative Judicial Authority, the Prefecture has reactivated the initiatives under its jurisdiction and, following new investigative information activities implemented by the Police Forces, as well as updated assessments and proposals arising from meetings of the Inter-Force Anti-Mafia Group operating at the Prefecture, the Prefect has adopted the so-called confirmations.
They must therefore necessarily provide updated elements and determinations compared to the past and be supported by new elements so decisive as to make it possible to replicate the prognosis of contraindication for anti-mafia purposes", is specified in the note.
Furthermore, the Police Offices and the Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza Commands have been specifically "sensitized so that, in the territories under their respective jurisdiction, they implement control and verification initiatives aimed at ascertaining whether the impeding measures are having their effects and whether the measures contained therein are being respected".
Finally, the Mayors of the area were also called to pay particular attention to adopting the consequent measures of competence, since the banned companies not only cannot contract with the Public Administration, but also have their licenses, authorizations and concessions previously issued to them revoked, precisely by the Local Authorities.
