Appeal for the Annalisa Durante Library: A Struggle for Stability
On October 21st, theappeal for the stabilization of the Annalisa Durante Library saw the participation of illustrious personalities such as Don Luigi Ciotti, Maurizio De Giovanni, Paolo Siani and Nino Daniele. Promoted by Annalisa's father, with the support of the Italian Library Association and Libera, the initiative was launched during the Round Table "Stabilizing social libraries, strongholds of culture and legality".
A Cultural Presidium Threatened by Instability
Twenty years after the disappearance of Annalisa Durante, a victim of the Camorra, the library dedicated to her is still struggling for financial stability. Don Luigi Ciotti described social libraries as “a powerful antidote to violence and the malaise of young people” and urged local institutions to provide support to the Annalisa Durante Library. Currently, the staff is working in a precarious situation, a situation that has persisted for years.
Proposals for Support and Enhancement
During the meeting, the important role of the Annalisa Durante Library as a resource for the community was highlighted. Proposals emerged to raise funds and create a scientific committee to strengthen it. However, there were concerns regarding possible changes in its identity or the removal of night security, which could compromise the safety of the structure. The participants concluded by signing an Appeal-Manifesto, asking for commitment from the institutions and the community to maintain and enhance the library as a symbol of culture and legality.
