benevento. A 48 year old man, resident in Benevento, was arrested by the State Police for attempted aggravated robbery and resisting a public official.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon, around 16:00 pm, near the Duomo, when a crew from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue noticed a group of kids fleeing from an adjacent parking lot.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that a violent attack was underway against a disabled man who was a regular beggar. The 48-year-old, after having grabbed the victim and punched him in the face, knocked him to the ground and then rummaged through his jacket looking for money.
The attacker resisted the intervening officers, but thanks to the support of a second patrol, he was stopped and taken to the police station for further investigations.
From the victim's statements it emerged that the aggression, initially verbal, degenerated into physical violence after the disabled man refused to hand over money.
The 48-year-old, already known to the police and under probation, was arrested for attempted aggravated robbery against a person with lesser capacity for defense, and reported for resisting a public official. By order of the judicial authority, he was placed under house arrest.
