Naples. A prison police officer was arrested while attempting to smuggle 800 grams of hashish into the Secondigliano prison in Naples, where he served.
The drugs were hidden in a sort of vest, but the attempt was discovered by his own colleagues, who immediately stopped him. After the arrest, the agent was transferred to the military prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, in the province of Caserta.
Giuseppe Moretti, president of the Union of Penitentiary Police Unions (USPP), and Ciro Auricchio, regional secretary, expressed satisfaction with the work of their colleagues, commenting: “We congratulate the penitentiary police for the arrest of the unfaithful officer.
Episodes like this should never happen, and those who commit them must be promptly identified and removed, because they are not worthy of wearing our uniform.”
The two unionists then reiterated the value of the institution they represent: "The prison police is a healthy institution, deeply rooted in democratic values. The betrayal of the trust of the State, of the prison management and of colleagues is a painful fact.
We thank the staff of the Secondigliano prison who, despite the numerous daily difficulties, continue to carry out with commitment the institutional mission entrusted by the Law and the Constitution, guaranteeing order, internal security and respect for the law.”
