Neapolitan Harmonies – An ambitious cultural project is about to come to life in the heart of Scampia. From November 4 to 30, the Auditorium di Maria SS del Buon Rimedio will host “Neapolitan Harmonies,” an initiative that aims to connect the younger generations of the VIII Municipality with the rich Neapolitan musical and theatrical heritage.
The project, promoted by the Municipality of Naples as part of “Affabulazione” and financed by the National Fund for Live Performance of the MiC, is divided into a concert-show and three free laboratory courses, with particular attention paid to the students of the Melissa Bassi music high school.
“Armonie Napoletane is a precious opportunity, especially for the young people of Scampia, to rediscover their roots through music,” says artistic director Eugenio Ottieri. “Neapolitan song is not only a heritage to be celebrated, but a viaticum to understand the culture and history of Naples.”
The program opens with “NaCanzone Lab” (November 4, 11 and 18), led by maestro Pasquale Scialò, renowned musicologist and author of “Storia della Canzone Napoletana”, who will explore the Neapolitan musical repertoire between the 800th and 900th centuries. This will be followed by the Video Sound Lab (November 11, 15 and 19), led by Ottieri and Salvatore Prezioso, with a focus on the silent film “Assunta Spina”, and the Teatro-Canzone Lab (November 11, 15 and 19) directed by Adria Mortari, dedicated to the works of Di Giacomo and Viviani.
The project will culminate on November 30th at 19:30 pm with a world premiere concert, directed by Eugenio Ottieri. The event will feature the Sonora Chamber Ensemble and the actor-singers Adria Mortari and Gianni Lamagna, preceded by the screening of “Assunta Spina” with the soundtrack created during the workshop.
