Un thief recently committed a theft in a restaurant di Torre Annunziata, stealing the wallet of the owner's wife. In response, the owner posted an appeal on social media, which quickly went viral, addressing the thief directly: "Give back the documents and papers and I won't report you. You have 24 hours to think about it."
However, the message was ignored, prompting the entrepreneur to file a complaint the following day, as confirmed in a second video posted online, accompanied by screenshots of the illicit expenses made with the victim's credit card. The videos were also reported to Alleanza Verdi Sinistra MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
Borrelli harshly commented on the story: "We are facing a new frontier of crime: a negotiation live on social media between victim and criminal, bypassing institutions and law enforcement. It is a devastating social message, a point of no return in the fight against crime.
This behavior risks encouraging a phenomenon of emulation, with the risk of a growth of 'digital return horses' that could increase the number of thefts. The only response against those who commit crimes must be to report them to the authorities, without concessions or private negotiations that would add a further risk for the victims.
It is a very different thing to launch an appeal for the guilty party to turn himself in, than to offer a life preserver to get back what was stolen, as if the crime had never happened. This is unacceptable and represents a form of connivance incompatible with a civil society.”
