An operation by the Naples Local Police led to the seizure of a huge quantity of illegally held fireworks. The officers of the IAES Operational Unit, during a traffic police check on via Marco Aurelio, stopped a vehicle that was transporting 3000 pieces of fireworks and numerous pyrotechnic batteries, for a total of over 50 kg of explosives.
According to an official note, the material found did not have the CE mark, which is mandatory to ensure compliance with European safety standards. The driver of the vehicle was unable to produce either a purchase invoice or a transport authorization.
The matter took on even more serious overtones when the officers, suspicious, decided to extend the checks to the residence of the arrested person. In the stairwell of the building, closed by an iron gate, another illegal deposit of explosive material was discovered. In this case too, the material did not comply with any safety standards, putting the safety of the residents at risk.
The fireworks and pyrotechnic batteries were immediately seized. The driver was reported to the Judicial Authority on charges of illegal possession and transportation of explosive material, aggravated by the lack of security measures for custody.
