They were not at the campsite to relax, but to steal: this is the scenario that the carabinieri found when they intervened at the Camping International on via Foce Vecchia, in Varcaturo.
A report to 112 led the military to surprise five people, belonging to the same family, while they were dismantling aluminum frames and windows from bungalows. On site, the Carabinieri stopped Aniello Giugliano, 42, and Maria Maggio, 52, both already known to the police, together with the woman's three children, aged 20, 18 and 16.
The five were busy dismantling the window frames with burglary tools, ready to take away 20 pieces of window frames for a total value of about 3.000 euros. The tools used for the theft were seized. The couple and their two adult children were arrested on charges of aggravated theft in competition. The minor, however, was reported at large.
According to reconstructions, the operation had been planned to steal valuable materials from the campsite bungalows. Thanks to the timely intervention of the police, the theft was foiled before the criminals could complete the job. The family will now have to answer before the courts for the crime of aggravated theft.
