Naples – Maximum solidarity from institutions and politics to Luigi Cuomo, national president of SOS Impresa, attacked and threatened in recent days in Pianura.
This morning the prefect of Naples, Michele of Bari, visited the association's headquarters to express closeness to Cuomo and his commitment to the fight against racketeering and usury.
"I can only thank those who, even with an associative spirit, work to protect businesses," declared the prefect, assuring that "the action of the State will be increasingly stronger and more incisive."
Di Bari then thanked the police forces that accompanied him and underlined how the recent operations conducted in the city demonstrate "the great attention of the institutions on the territory".
The threats to Cuomo came from the father of a man arrested for extortion. The attacker's ire was reportedly triggered by the president's activities SOS Company, who had accompanied a shopkeeper to report. The man first entered the offices of the association and then physically attacked Cuomo outside his home, in an act of intimidation that alarmed the authorities.
The reaction from the political world was also very harsh. «I express my unconditional solidarity with Luigi Cuomo – he said Giuseppe Antoci, President of the DMED Political Committee of the European Parliament –. Vile acts like this are contrasted with the resilience of those who have been fighting for years for legality and justice".
The Democratic Party also intervened on the matter, with a note signed by Sandro Ruotolo, Marco Sarracino and Arturo Scotto: «The clans attack those who have the courage to expose themselves. We cannot leave them alone. We need a strong response from the State. Whoever touches a bastion of legality, touches the entire democratic community».
Meanwhile, the legality garrison represented by SOS Impresa and its president continues its activity in the territory. Cuomo, who has been on the front line against extortion for years, has no intention of backing down: "The threats will not stop us," he declared.

It is a sad episode that shows how there are still problems in our society. Institutions must do more to protect those who work for the common good. Let's hope that these acts will not happen again.
