By a strange twist of fate, Chiara had shared a post su Facebook concerning the very topic of road safety, which read among other things: “Even if you don’t drink, don’t stay silent. Try to make many people understand that your own life is in danger”. There are already many messages of condolence on the girl's wall.
This is the full text of the post shared by the 23-year-old:
“Mom, I went out with friends. I went to a party and I remembered what you told me: not to drink alcohol. You asked me not to drink since I had to drive, so I drank a Sprite. I felt proud of myself, also for having listened to the way you sweetly suggested not to drink if I had to drive, contrary to what some friends tell me. I made a healthy choice and your advice was right.
When the party was over, people started driving without being in a condition to do so. I took my car with the certainty that I was sober. I could not imagine, Mom, what awaited me… Something unexpected! Now I am lying here on the asphalt and I hear a policeman saying: . Mom, his voice seems so far away…
IMy blood is all over the place and I'm trying so hard not to cry. I can hear the doctors saying:this girl won't make it>. I'm sure the guy driving the other car didn't even imagine it, while he was speeding. In the end he decided to drink and now I have to die… Why do people do all this, Mom? Knowing that they will destroy lives? The pain is like it's stabbing me with a hundred knives at once.
Tell my sister not to be scared, Mom, tell Dad to be strong. Someone should have told that boy not to drink and drive… Maybe if his parents had told him, I would be alive now… My breathing is getting weaker and weaker and I’m starting to get really scared… These are my last moments, and I feel so desperate… I wish I could hold you Mom, as I lie here dying. I wish I could tell you that I love you for this… I love you and… goodbye.”
These words were written by a journalist who was present at the accident. The girl, while dying, whispered these words and the journalist wrote… shocked. This journalist has started a campaign against drunk driving.
