“No to the decree Caivano, yet another government advert”: this is what the Region says Toscana voted against the text in the Education Committee of the Conference of the Regions. “I voted against the Caivano decree because it is a wrong and harmful text with which the right demonstrates once again its security-oriented approach”, explains in a press release the Education Councillor of the Tuscany Region Alessandra Nardini, affirming that “it is yet another spot measure by the government, which takes away useful resources with the sole aim of making propaganda”.
The no of Tuscany, reports Nardini's note, was accompanied by the vote against of Campania, expressed by the councilor Lucia Fortini. “The decree – adds Nardini – is not financed with structural resources but by taking away funds from investments in schools and emergencies such as the flood in Emilia Romagna”, furthermore “the text is ineffective and wrong also from a pedagogical point of view. In fact, a media shortcut is chosen, that of criminal prosecution for parents who do not send their children to school, when it comes to contexts that are mostly impervious to the threat of sanctions, sometimes even where the parents are already in prison. But does the Government know what it is talking about?”.
Councilor Nardini also emphasizes the many doubts that the planned re-education paths for minors raise as well as the lack of planning of didactic and educational paths and extraordinary actions to prevent school dropouts and abandonment. "The government chooses not to intervene on the social causes and on the economic and educational poverty that generate situations like what happened in Caivano - concludes Nardini - and decides not to focus on the educational value of school which in our opinion is the main road".
