There are over 34 pizzerias in Italy. It's consumers' favorite type of establishment (74%), surpassing bars (65%) and restaurants (64%) in popularity. This is according to the survey "Guida HoReCa Italia" by Cga by NIQ (a consultancy firm for measurement, analysis, and research in the on-premise sector).
The market analysis records that there are 34.406 pizzerias throughout Italy, of which 27% are located in large cities and 73% in more peripheral areas, while coastal regions host 40% of pizzerias compared to 2% in mountain areas. pizzerias - analysts report - are also characterized by regional differences: Campania, Puglia, Molise, Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily make up 34% of the total market in terms of supply and consumption, followed by Tuscany, Lazio, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo and Sardinia at 27%.

In third place is the Northwest (Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria, and Valle d'Aosta) with 22%, followed by the regions of Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Emilia-Romagna, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia with 18% of establishments and consumers. Pizzeria chains, on the other hand, are found in Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria, and Valle d'Aosta, accounting for over 75% of cases.
Beer is the most consumed in pizzerias, specifically 40% of Italians opt for local or national beers, while 28% prefer imported or craft beers. Cga by Niq, analyzing the spending of people who drink beer in pizzerias, finds that beer represents 18% of the total spending of beer consumers in the out-of-home market. Sparkling wines, including prosecco, are chosen by 23% of pizzeria goers.
