The Swedish prosecutor's office has confirmed that it has opened an investigation into rape linked to an incident in central Stockholm, without revealing the identity of those involved. The announcement follows reports in local media, which point the finger at French footballer Kylian Mbappé. According to newspapers Aftonbladet ed Expressen, the Real Madrid striker is reportedly the subject of an investigation into an alleged rape that occurred on Thursday, October 10, in a hotel in the Swedish capital.
The prosecutor's office said in a statement that the police had received a complaint of rape and that investigations were underway, without confirming the names of the suspects. According to information released by the press, Mbappé is considered a “reasonable suspicion”, the lowest level of suspicion under Swedish law. As part of the investigation, the police seized various items of clothing, including a pair of black trousers, a top and panties.
The French striker, who was in Stockholm with his entourage in recent days, responded harshly to the accusations through his social media channels, calling them “fake news”. In a post published on X (formerly Twitter), Mbappé he wrote: “FAKE NEWS!!! It’s becoming so predictable, the day before the hearing, as if by chance”, referring to an ongoing legal dispute with Paris Saint-Germain, his former club, over unpaid wages and bonuses totalling €55 million.
According to media reports, Mbappé, before the episode, spent Thursday evening at the restaurant Chez Jolie, and then went to the club “V”, where he met other people. The investigation continues, while the footballer has already declared himself the victim of a media campaign.
