During the summer, the Carabinieri of the NAS of Salerno They carried out checks on 486 structures, of which 186 were found to be “non-compliant”. 248 fines were issued for a total of approximately 100.000 euros and 108 people were reported to the administrative authorities.
Checks in the restaurant sector (including agritourism and warehouses) led to the seizure of over 10 tons of food (meat, fish, cheese, flour, pasta, bread and wine) and the immediate closure of five restaurants, two supermarkets, a food warehouse, a bakery and a pastry shop due to serious hygiene and health deficiencies, ascertained with the support of medical personnel from the competent ASL.
In addition, 17 warnings were issued against fishmongers and fish establishments, with the seizure of over 6,5 quintals of products. Eleven beach establishments were warned and in one case the immediate closure of a kitchen and a bar was ordered. 23 agritourism establishments were also fined, distributed between the provinces of Salerno, Avellino and Benevento.
During the inspection of several festivals, approximately three quintals of food and 50 liters of wine were seized, immediately closing non-compliant stands and preparation areas.
The checks also involved emergency medical clinics and social care facilities, with three warnings being issued for non-conformities such as mold, humidity, lack of furniture and inadequate refrigerators for storing medicines.
As regards social-welfare facilities, prescriptions were given to three care communities and to a shelter, where organizational, structural and functional deficiencies were detected. Following the non-compliance, the local authorities revoked the authorizations to a group apartment and to a care community in the provinces of Avellino and Salerno.

It is worrying to see so many non-compliant structures, we need to be more careful about food safety and hygiene.
It is worrying to discover that so many facilities do not comply with health and hygiene standards. We hope that these sanctions will lead to an improvement in the situation.
