Salerno declares war on unauthorized parking, and citizens respond with a flurry of reports through the app YouPol. The initiative, launched by Police Commissioner Giancarlo Conticchio, is bearing fruit: on Saturday evening alone, at least four reports were received, allowing the Flying Squad officers to intervene and fine an illegal immigrant in the city center.
The cooperation of citizens, tired of the constant requests for money from illegal parking attendants, was fundamental. The app YouPol, introduced in 2017, allows specific crimes, including the presence of illegal parking attendants, to be reported directly to the police. And the response was not long in coming: so far, the municipal police have fined 155 illegal parking attendants.
In the last few days, the State Police has intensified checks, leading to a significant number of interventions: two people have been reported at liberty with a ban on returning to Salerno, four others were reported with a ban on access to urban areas, while four others were issued with an Urban Daspo. The crackdown has become even more severe in recent weeks, when two illegal parking attendants were arrested for violence, assault and extortion.
