A cruel gesture has shaken the community of Cava de' Tirreni, in the province of Salerno. A seventy-year-old, owner of an agricultural land, has thrown two puppies of dog in the icy waters of the Cavaiola stream, throwing them from one of the pedestrian bridges in the San Giuseppe al Pozzo area.
The scene, which took place before the eyes of a resident, had a dramatic epilogue: the man, witness to the horrible act, dived into the stream to save the puppies. One of the two, however, was already lifeless. After recovering the other puppy, the resident reported the incident to the authorities.
The Environmental Patrol staff, alerted by the municipal kennel and coordinated by the Head of the Judicial Police, immediately took action to identify the perpetrator. The seventy-year-old, initially reticent, later confessed his act.
By order of the court, the man was forced to hand over the mother of the surviving puppy to the municipal kennel, where both animals are currently housed. The mother, in fact, is busy breastfeeding the little one, a Breton Setter, while waiting for him to be weaned.
The seventy-year-old was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Nocera Inferiore and risks a sentence of four months to two years in prison. In the meantime, thanks to the intervention of the Environmental Unit of the Municipal Police, the surviving puppy has already found a future adoptive family, ready to welcome him as soon as he is independent.
An episode that once again underlines the importance of raising awareness against animal abuse and the need to report any form of abuse.
