Special appointment at the Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro where on Wednesday 15 March (16.00:XNUMX pm) the final event of the project “San Gennaro meets his boys” will be celebrated, a social initiative promoted by the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro dedicated to the young students of the A. Ristori State Institute in the Forcella district, to introduce them to the masterpieces of art and the history of the Patron Saint.

To celebrate the success of the initiative in the presence of His Excellency the Most Reverend Monsignor Domenico Battaglia, Metropolitan Archbishop of Naples and the Mayor and President of the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, Gaetano Manfredi, the following will speak: Don Riccardo Carafa d'Andria, Vice President of the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, Girolamo Carignani di Novoli, Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro and Stefania Colicelli, Director of the A. Ristori State Institute, together with the students of the school and their families.

Launched in November 2022, the project “San Gennaro meets his boys” involved 14 third-year middle school students from the A. Ristori State Institute. The intense program of activities with workshops, training and guided tours provided the young participants with the tools to learn about and explore the beautiful realities of the Royal Chapel and the Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro, which are integral to the history of their neighborhood and the entire city.

A complex training path that gave life to various multimedia creations, fruit of the imagination of the kids, in which each one told their own personal story, through a captivating and modern language, expression of their own world, thus becoming protagonists of the project.

To reward young students, the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro has made available 14 scholarships in the form of vouchers for books and school supplies for the first year of high school.

“The popular rite of San Gennaro is deeply rooted in Neapolitan culture, an expression of a deep bond between Naples and its patron saint that constitutes the essence of this city. – says Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples and President of the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro – Involving the students of Forcella in a project dedicated to the Real Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro is an important opportunity to learn about the identity elements and artistic beauties of the territory, which has offered these kids the opportunity to express themselves with their own languages and to become protagonists of a creative narrative. Investing in training is the only possible solution to offer young people, especially in difficult neighborhoods, an alternative to the street. Let's welcome, then, initiatives like this one that the Deputation of the Real Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro carries forward with commitment through the sharing of art and culture.”

“It is with great satisfaction that today we celebrate this new initiative that demonstrates the constant commitment that the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro dedicates to the Forcella neighborhood, adding a further piece to the program dedicated to social issues and the support of young generations. – declares Girolamo Carignani of Novoli, Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro – We thank the Director Colicelli, and the entire A. Ristori State Institute, which welcomed the initiative with great enthusiasm. Introducing the kids to the knowledge of the art and masterpieces of this place allows them to delve deeper into the historical roots of our territory and also the relationship between the Patron Saint and Naples. Stimulating the kids to the culture of beauty spread throughout our city, traces a path for their professional and scholastic future.”

“The project 'San Gennaro meets his boys' in collaboration with the Deputation of San Gennaro has provided our students with a unique opportunity for training in the area and guidance on post-diploma choices. – explains Stefania Colicelli, Director of the A. Ristori State Institute – The awareness of living in a neighborhood that is a UNESCO heritage site becomes not only a reason for pride in belonging, but itself a harbinger of alternative choices to the limited supply of jobs and prospects. Added to this is the positive experience of having structured a transversal path that places the school and the realities of the territory at the center. This and other collaborations demonstrate that to combat dispersion, it is necessary to stimulate in the kids the motivation and the ability to believe that the future can be changed.”

The initiative kept the students busy for four months both at school and at the Tesoro di San Gennaro. Coordinated by Professor Piera Marmo of the Istituto Statale A. Ristori, and accompanied by the digital school trainer Luigi Tammaro, the students followed specific workshops on the history of art and the history of the place managed by Francesca Ummarino, director of the Museum and Luciana De Maria, head of the cultural area of the Real Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro. They also participated in various visits to discover the Chapel and the Museum led by Fabio Trosa and Antonella Padula, in charge of student training and official guides of the museum. Thanks to the Deloitte Foundation for its active collaboration.

The children's works and videos will be presented during the ceremony on Wednesday 15 March in the Chapel and will be published on the social media platforms of the school and of the Tesoro di San Gennaro, and on their respective online sites.

The public present at the ceremony will be given a bookmark with a QR code that collects all the contents created by the kids during the training course.

The project “San Gennaro meets his boys” is part of a rich program of social initiatives that the Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro carries out with commitment and dedication through the sharing of art and culture, with the aim of increasingly involving the territory and its weakest groups in training, reception and inclusion initiatives.
