And in this ranking the big tourist cities such as , Rome and Florence are confirmed as the worst again this year. The top 10 is also populated by large cities and tourist destinations.

Nationally, reports are increasing for the first time since 2013, with a growth of 3,8% compared to 2022, with a particular increase in violent crimes: homicides, beatings, injuries and robberies.

The black jersey goes to Milan, which confirms itself as the city with the highest number of crimes reported in 2023, with over 7 thousand reports per 100 thousand inhabitants in 2023. In the Lombard capital, which has been at the top of this ranking for years, reports are up 4,9% compared to the pre-pandemic period, with negative records in thefts and robberies.

It is third for sexual assaults and fifth for drug-related crimes. Overall, crimes reported in the metropolitan area are slightly up: +4,9% compared to pre-Covid.

Rome is on the rise with a 16,7% increase in reports compared to 2019 and +11% compared to 2022, with thefts and predatory crimes leading the way (+17% thefts and +24% robberies in public streets), but also drug-related crimes.

Florence returns to the crime podium, driven by an increase in street robberies, which have grown by 56% compared to 2022. The phenomenon also seems to be linked to the flow of tourists: large cities, destination of millions of visitors every year, are seeing an increase in predatory and violent crimes.

30% of crimes in Italy in 2023 were reported in the 14 main capitals, with Milan and Rome alone accounting for 15% of the total. The top 10 of the ranking is populated by large cities and tourist destinations: Florence (3rd), Rimini (4th), Turin (5th), Bologna (6th), Prato (7th), Imperia (8th) and Livorno (10th).

(12th), however, gives way to Venice (9th) among the top ten provinces by number of crimes recorded in 2023.

In contrast to the large urban centers, the provinces of Oristano, Potenza and Treviso are the safest in Italy, placing themselves at the bottom of the ranking. Here the reports are decidedly lower. A fact interpreted as a sign of greater control of the territory or of a possible silence due to the lack of effective action by the State.
