Melito. He wouldn't take no for an answer. A 44-year-old man, a regular customer at a store, had become infatuated with an employee of nearly the same age. Day after day, his constant presence culminated in an unrequited declaration of love. From that moment, rejection unleashed a morbid obsession within him.

The woman initially tries to maintain a civil relationship, perhaps out of compassion. However, the man's behavior soon degenerates. A disturbing episode occurs last winter: he convinces her to get into his car to "talk", but the situation worsens. He tries to molest her and, when she refuses, breaks her cell phone. The man, seized by the fear of losing her, asks her forgiveness, and she, fragile and frightened, forgives him.

For a short time, it seems that the situation has calmed down. But in the summer, during a trip to the beach, the man's jealousy explodes again. He destroys the woman's phone again and violently hits her. The victim does not turn to the authorities, overwhelmed by the fear of repercussions and the fear of compromising her work and family life.

The persecution continues on social media. A seemingly innocuous gesture, such as buying a gift inspired by an online comment, turns into another excuse to meet her. The woman, accompanied by a friend, shows up at the mall to return the gift, but the man loses control: he threatens his friend, destroys the gift and attacks physically the woman.

Despite the umpteenth attack, the victim does not find the strength to report. The climate of fear and oppression grows, until the decisive episode.

The investment attempt

The man, now exasperated by the refusal, shows up at the woman's house. She, aware of the danger, agrees to talk to him in the street. During yet another confrontation, the man orders her to accept his "proposal" or pay with her life. Faced with yet another refusal, he tries to run her over with his car. The woman manages to escape and finds refuge with an acquaintance, who immediately takes her to the Carabinieri.

The complaint and the arrest

Finally safe, the woman tells everything: months of abuse, threats and persecution. She also provides concrete evidence, including images captured by her home's alarm system, which immortalize the stalker trying to break into the building.

The Carabinieri immediately took action and, a few hours later, found the man near the victim's home. He was there, obsessed with the idea of ​​"talking to her again".

The man was arrested on charges of stalking. He is now in prison, while the woman can finally try to rebuild her life, free from his obsession.
