Eating disorders (ED) are a complex group of psychiatric disorders related to a dysfunctional relationship with food, the body, and self-image. The main disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder.
According to the Ministry of Health, in Italy it is estimated that around 3 million people suffer from an eating disorder, with a 30% increase recorded since the Covid-19 pandemic. The age group most affected is between 12 and 25 years old, with a significant increase in cases also among children, adolescents and adults.
Patrizia Todisco, psychiatrist and president of the Italian Society for the Study of Eating Disorders (SISDCA), discussed these topics in an interview with Marco Klinger for Medicina Top, the TV format of the press agency Italpress.

Eating disorders are serious and affect many young people. It is worrying that there are so many cases on the rise, especially after the pandemic. We need to talk about it more to raise awareness.
