Napoli – At least one person has been arrested as part of the investigation into the kidnapping of a 15-year-old teenager that occurred this morning in San Giorgio a Cremano, in the province of Naples. The suspect is believed to be a 24-year-old of foreign origin.

The boy, picked up around 8 am on his way to school, was freed by the police in Licola in the early afternoon and is currently safe with his family. The alarm was apparently raised by a shopkeeper, who saw the young man being hooded and dragged into a van.

The shadow of the Camorra and the extortion demand behind the kidnapping

The arrested person is accused of kidnapping for the purpose of extortion, aggravated by the mafia-style methods which seem to be the latest frontier of illegal business of the Camorra clan in central Naples, in particular the Mazzarellas and the Continis, protagonists of two episodes of this kind in recent months.

According to leaks, the kidnappers have asked for a ransom of one and a half million euros from the boy's father, a wealthy businessman from the province.

The appeal on social media

The news of the kidnapping shocked the community, so much so that a heartfelt appeal circulated on social media: “This morning at 8 he was going to get car 50 to go to school – the post read – and they kidnapped him, putting a hood over his head and loading him into a van.

A gentleman at the bar reported the incident and the police are investigating. Spread the word. He is a good boy, he goes to school, he is very sensitive and good”.

The boy and his parents at the police station

In the afternoon, the fifteen-year-old and his parents, accompanied by the lawyer Michele Rullo, showed up at the Naples Police Headquarters to be questioned by investigators. The Flying Squad, coordinated by the Naples Prosecutor's Office, is working on the case, and at the moment it only confirms the boy's good conditions.

Investigations are continuing to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident and clarify the reasons for the kidnapping.

The investigations carried out by the Naples Flying Squad, which availed itself of the technical support of the Central Operations Service of the State Police and the contribution of the Investigative Unit of the Carabinieri of Torre Annunziata, made it possible in a few hours to rescue the kidnapped minor in the phases immediately following his release and to block one of the alleged kidnappers who was then subjected to the arrest order.
