Carlo Mazzone, former coach, has died. He was 86 years old

The world of Italian football is crying Charles Mazzone, former footballer but above all coach. Also known as 'Sor Carletto' (or 'Sor Magara'), in his career he is remembered for his numerous adventures in Serie A: in fact, he holds the record for benches in the top division of our championship (792 in total).

Raised in the youth teams of Rome, with which he made his debut in Serie A in 1959, he then played mainly at Siena and especially to Del Duca Ascoli, a club where he played for nine years from 1960 to 1969, the year in which he began his career as a coach and ended his career as a footballer.

It was right at theAscoli the beginning of his life as a coach: two promotions in three years from C to A and an adventure that ended in 1975. After a brief stint at Fiorentina with the victory of the Italian-English League Cup the return to Ascoli. Then Bologna, Lecce e Pescara before the transition in 1991 to Cagliari, a successful experience with qualification for the UEFA Cup which earned him a call from the Rome.

In yellow and red Mazzone is known above all for having launched the young Francesco Totti, but the adventure in the Capital will end with a seventh place and two fifth places. A brief experience at Napoli will then precede that one Brescia training Roberto Baggio, the last great adventure of his career followed by two short experiences between Bologna e Livorno.
