“There is no more life in my child”. The father’s heartbroken words, two days ago, unfortunately foreshadowed the tragic epilogue, confirmed late yesterday evening.
He did not make it Amin, the four-year-old boy who fell into the Swimmingpool of the Acqvasport center in Cermenate, in the Como area, without ever resurfacing.
Another victim in a summer where the deaths of children in swimming pools are approaching ten.
La death Amin's death was similar to that of Fatou who died at the age of 11 at the Papa Giovanni hospital where she was taken on 17 June after being rescued in a swimming pool in the Aquaneva park in Inzago, in Milanese where she had gone on a trip with the oratory. And that of Arkea, who died at the age of 5 in the swimming pool of a hotel in Imola, in the Bologna area, just a few days ago.
And then there is Elisa, who died at the age of 13 after eight days of agony in hospital, after being rescued in the swimming pool in Guastalla, in the province of Reggio Emilia, and Jasmine who drowned in the swimming pool in Sesto Godano, in the province of La Spezia, where she was with the summer camp of the Municipality of Sestri Levante.
And Leonardo, the 17-year-old boy who died in hospital after being rescued from a swimming pool in Ponzano, in the province of Fermo, as well as a fifteen-year-old who died two days after being rescued from the San Leonardo in Passiria hospital in Alto Adige, and Cristian who died in the swimming pool of a condominium in Castel Volturno, in the province of Caserta.
On July 28, the alarm was raised almost immediately: rescue personnel jumped into the water to recover him, but his conditions immediately appeared very serious.
Attempts to resuscitate him on site lasted a long time before it was decided to transport the little patient by helicopter to the Papa Giovanni hospital in Bergamo. Where the child remained in intensive care, unfortunately without showing signs of recovery.
The parents, of Moroccan origin and long-time residents of Lomazzo, have recently moved to Bergamo to an accommodation made available by the association that assists the families of pediatric patients.
And from Bergamo, already two days ago, hope was really hanging by a very thin thread. The news spread quickly in Lomazzo, arousing grief and emotion: the father works in the Islamic butcher shop and is very well known in the town of Bassa Comasca.
On Sunday the family had gone to the aquatic center in Cermenate, a few kilometers from Lomazzo, a facility owned by the municipality but managed by a specialized company with swimming pools, slides and large green spaces.
The tragedy unfolded in the space of a few moments at 12.45: while waiting for the reconstruction by the investigators - as is standard practice, a case has been opened against unknown persons - we can only rely on indirect accounts.
It seems that the little boy was in the baby pool and suddenly decided to move to the adult pool, jumping into the water. The lifeguards noticed and even whistled, and then jumped into the water as soon as they saw that the little boy did not resurface.
There are those who say that the child never resurfaced after using a slide. In both cases, the child did not remain in the water for long, but when he was brought back to shore he was unconscious.
