Gianfranco Zola, an icon of Italian football and current vice-president of Lega Pro, expressed his opinion on Napoli's extraordinary season, during the “Premio Eccellenza Mediterraneo” event. “Napoli are going very strong, and that doesn't surprise me at all,” Zola declared, underlining the quality of coach Antonio Conte and the team.
According to the former striker, the opportunity to work with the group on a daily basis has accelerated Napoli's growth and consolidation process. “Even before the start of the championship, I considered Napoli one of the four teams in the running for the Scudetto, but the key now will be to keep up the pace because the competition is fierce.”
During the same event, Zola commented with irony on the recent statements of Francesco Totti, who revealed that he had received offers to return to play in Serie A. “If he tells me his secret, I'll think about it too”, joked Zola, acknowledging Totti's technical talent, but defining the former Roma captain's words more as a provocation. Zola added: “Someone with his qualities would always be welcome in our league.”
