Rosa Vespa, the woman accused of kidnapping a newborn baby last January 21 from the “Sacro Cuore” clinic in Cosenza, will remain in prison.
The decision was made by the preliminary investigations judge of Cosenza, Claudia Pingitore, who this morning validated the precautionary measure after the preliminary hearing. Vespa is formally under investigation for kidnapping.
The fate was different for her husband, Moses Omogo Chidiebere, 43, who was arrested together with the wife on the same charge. The investigating judge ordered his release, considering his statements plausible.
"My client," said his lawyer, Gianluca Garritano, "truly believed in his wife's pregnancy, also because she herself had constructed a credible situation. There are photos that portray him while he is kissing her belly."
According to the lawyer, Rosa Vespa had faked her pregnancy by wearing a fake belly and had shown her husband a supposed letter of resignation from the clinic. Moses Omogo Chidiebere has already left Castrovillari prison, where he was being held.
