POTENZA – They defrauded an elderly woman with the classic false debt scam, but the Carabinieri stopped them before they could disappear.
Two young Neapolitans, aged 25 and 18, were arrested in Francavilla in Sinni on charges of complicity in fraud against an eighty-year-old.
The two criminals, after having called the woman pretending to be postal workers and telling her that her nephew had a debt to pay, showed up at her home to collect the sum. The victim, having fallen into the trap, gave them 500 euros in cash and several gold jewels.
Fortunately, the woman realized the scam and immediately raised the alarm. The Carabinieri, who intervened promptly, identified the two scammers as they were wandering around the town center on board a small car with a suspicious attitude. Stopped and searched, the military recovered all the stolen goods.
The arrest was validated and the two young people were ordered to remain in their respective municipalities of residence.
