As part of the "Quiet Summer" campaign, the Carabinieri of the NAS of Naples have intensified inspections to ensure food and health safety during the summer season. The inspections involved restaurants, agritourism businesses, campsites, beach resorts, and fishmongers throughout the province.
Since the beginning of the summer, 150 checks have been carried out by NAS Carabinieri, which have yielded significant results. Sixty-one owners of food service and retail businesses have been reported to the Administrative Authority. The administrative fines amount to €130, and 900 kg of meat and fish products have been seized.
Eight facilities were immediately closed for preparing and serving untraceable food in unhygienic conditions. NAS staff also collected numerous samples of meat products for testing for the ASF virus, as well as fish products that had been re-immersed in uncertified water, posing a risk of contamination by Escherichia coli bacteria.
