Late yesterday morning at Pisa The Carabinieri arrested a 38-year-old and a 24-year-old, residents of Napoli, for fraud by self-styled Carabinieri.
Specifically, the two contacted an elderly lady by telephone, pretending to be her son, telling her that her relative, who was at the Carabinieri barracks, needed 5.000 euros to make an urgent payment.
On this occasion, the woman, deceived, prepared all the gold in her possession and the sum of 800 euros in cash, which she handed over shortly after to one of the criminals who had arrived at her home in the meantime.
The military intercepted the two in a street not far from the victim's house, surprising them with what they had just stolen, thus proceeding to the arrest. The stolen goods, with a total value of approximately 20.000 euros, were returned to the woman.
Investigations are still ongoing in order to identify further accomplices. The arrested were released, as ordered by the competent Judicial Authority.
