Violence in prison Avellino – High tension in the prison Bellizzi Irpino, where in recent days there have been episodes of violence involving detainees and prison staff. The situation further exploded during an inspection visit conducted by Forza Italia MP Francesco Maria Rubano, accompanied by representatives of the Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police (Know).
During the visit, Rubano was the target of verbal aggression by some inmates, who also attempted physical contact, which was immediately foiled by the timely intervention of the surveillance officers. The episode shook the already tense climate inside the penitentiary, but the deputy preferred to keep the matter under wraps, not officially confirming the physical aggression.
Rubano, however, expressed firm words regarding the situation in the prison, underlining the need not to give in to provocations: “We cannot allow prisoners to challenge the State. We are the State and we will never bend”, he declared with determination. The deputy, committed to monitoring the conditions of the penitentiary and respect for human rights, reiterated that episodes of this type must not intimidate the institutions.
After the visit, Rubano met with the prefect of Avellino, Paola Spena, to discuss measures to restore calm within the facility and ensure the safety of staff and inmates. The episode once again raises the issue of the difficult conditions in which prison officers operate and the overcrowding of Italian prisons, a problem that requires urgent solutions and structural interventions.
