The incident, which appears to have been caused by a lack of adequate signage regarding height restrictions, has reignited debate over the safety of the production site's internal infrastructure.
According to initial reconstructions, the heavy vehicle, used for transporting materials, would not have had the opportunity to notice the reduced height of the bridge, due to the absence of signs positioned in a visible and strategic way. The impact caused serious damage to the upper part of the truck, but fortunately there were no injuries.
A recurring security issue?
This is not the first episode of this kind to occur in the plant or in its immediate vicinity. The industrial area of Pomigliano d'Arco, frequented daily by a large number of heavy vehicles, has infrastructures that, according to workers, are not always adequate for the flow and characteristics of the vehicles.
“These vehicles enter and exit the plant Stellantis everyday," declared a worker who was present at the time of the accident. “It is incredible that there are no signs to indicate low bridges or other structural limitations. There is a risk of accidents much more serious than this.”
The intervention of the authorities
In the next few days, officials of the Labour Inspectorate, sent by the Prefect of Napoli, will carry out an inspection inside the site to verify the safety conditions. The inspectors will have to evaluate whether the plant complies with the regulations regarding infrastructure and workplace safety,
