A memorandum of understanding has been signed in Cava de' Tirreni, marking the official launch of the “Neighborhood Watch” project. The initiative aims to actively involve citizens in monitoring their residential areas, with the aim of preventing home burglaries, an increasingly widespread phenomenon.
The project includes the establishment of voluntary groups, each with a designated contact, who will be responsible for collecting and transmitting relevant information to the Police. Reports may concern suspicious cars, abnormal movements, unusual noises or the activation of alarms. However, any direct intervention is prohibited: volunteers may only communicate suspicious situations to the competent authorities or contact 112 in case of emergency.
The initiative, which excludes any political or trade union involvement, aims to guarantee urban safety through a structured collaboration between citizens and institutions. In the coming days, the Municipal police will launch an information campaign to gather membership and activate groups in the municipal area.
The Mayor Vincenzo Servalli expressed satisfaction with this new model of active citizenship: "This is a project that has never been done before in our territory. I thank the Prefect, the Police Commissioner and the representatives of the Police Forces for having contributed to the creation of a shared security system, which will be able to guarantee a network of sentinels on the territory without exposing volunteers to unnecessary risks. Social solidarity will be the heart of this initiative."

This project seems interesting but I don't know if citizens are ready to collaborate so much, maybe it would be important to have more information about how it will work exactly and what are the responsibilities of the volunteers who participate.
