Metal detectors and drug-sniffing dogs were used at the Marie Curie Technical-Technological Institute, located in Ponticelli, on the eastern outskirts of Naples.
According to Il Mattino, students were subjected to checks of backpacks and jackets during entry hours. The action was undertaken at the request of the principal, Valeria Pirone, to prevent the introduction of weapons or narcotics into classrooms.
The principal expressed concerns about the growing use of weapons among young people, indicating that the phenomenon also affects "unsuspecting" families. The main reason given by the CHILDREN for the possession of weapons was the need for self-defense.
The officers of the Ponticelli Police Station accepted the request of the school principal, intervening to prevent potentially dangerous situations. The school, in collaboration with the police, is trying to address and manage this problem. The students were therefore subjected to checks by the officers during the operation.
