Francesco Calzone he told Cronache di Spogliatoio how he experienced his first contact with the Napoli and the feelings he felt when he realised he was the new coach of the Azzurri: “I was on the ring road towards Naples, coming from Calabria, aboard a rental car. In a moment of pure adrenaline and joy, I lowered the window and let out a scream, happy to be returning to my city with the new role that had been assigned to me”.
“I was in Calabria to help my parents with the renovation of an apartment.
Together with my brother, I had originally planned to stay four days, but circumstances led to an extension. While I was walking along the coast, a daily habit of at least 10 km, waiting for a fishing boat with fresh fish, I received a call from a Napoli manager.
And I decided not to buy the fish."
“The phone call lasted only 40 seconds, but I never had any doubts. An offer like that could not be refused, since I am naturally oriented towards challenges and the idea of returning to Naples, a city that is part of my life, was of primary importance.
I love to get out of my comfort zone, as my experience in an unknown country like the Slovakia.Returning to Naples was a significant commitment, I felt the weight of the responsibility in representing the region.
My family also shared this burden, aware of the importance of this step.”
