During the funeral of Vincenzo Garzillo, one of the victims of the explosion at the Suviana hydroelectric plant, the archbishop of Naples, Don Mimmo Battaglia, expressed firm words against tragedies at work.
He stressed that every death in the workplace is a scandal and reiterated the importance of immediate assumption of responsibility and attention to safety at work, which must not be considered a cost, but a fundamental value.
"Every victim in the workplace is a scandal, we cannot get used to the fact that work, which is a source of life, leads to death. We need time for responsibility and safety, which is not a cost."
Don Battaglia emphasized that work is essential for the life and dignity of people and called for concrete measures to clarify the tragedy that occurred. He urged the creation of a better working environment to ensure a different future and criticized the concept of "white death", stating that these tragedies dirty consciences and must be faced with determination.
Garzillo’s daughter, Fara, remembered her father as a guiding figure and point of reference, emphasizing his commitment and passion for his work.
“If only I had known,” he said, “I would have given you one last hug. You were our captain, our guide, our lighthouse, our counselor, our backbone. You carried out your great passion, your work, always with love and professionalism.”
Among those present at the religious function were the deputy mayor of Naples, Laura Lieto, the top management of e-distribuzione, including CEO Vincenzo Ranieri, the head of the Campania area Marino Cerrato, the head of Naples Mario Allella and a delegation from the Cgil.
