There are 70 apartments in the Vela Celeste Scampia considered habitable and which will soon be returned to their inhabitants.
The approval was given after the water and electricity supplies were reconnected today throughout the building that collapsed on Monday evening, causing three victims. The seventy apartments are located in different areas of Vela Celeste and have been checked and guaranteed to be safe.
Work is underway to draw up a second list consisting of another 115 apartments that have also been checked and that can welcome their inhabitants back within fifteen days, only after further safety checks by the technical bodies of the Common di Napoli.
The Municipality, it is highlighted, wants to give the ok to the return of the inhabitants only when all of Vela is guaranteed and safe. In the evening, a technical table at Palazzo San Giacomo between the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, the deputy mayor and councilor for urban planning Laura Lieto and the representatives of the evicted to seek a meeting point.
Currently, half of the approximately 800 people evacuated from the Vela Celeste live with relatives and friends and the other half in the building of the Federico II University of Scampia which has been occupied.
The Municipality also informs that the list of families who can return will be displayed at the entrance of the Vela and furthermore the inhabitants will be contacted individually by the Municipality service that will take care of accompanying them. Those who refuse will have to sign a paper in which they attest their will.
