Cerreto Sannita: Saturday 26 October an event of great cultural importance

A Cerreto Sannita, Saturday 26 October 2024 at 16.30 pm, in the church of San Martino, an event of significant cultural importance will be held, open to the public and with free participation.

This meeting will be divided into two distinct moments: a literary presentation followed by a musical concert.

Presentation of the Book on 17th Century Music

After the initial greetings from the parish priest and the president of the Historical Association “Valle Telesina”, Maria Michela Macolino will moderate the presentation of the book “Musiche seicentesche profane e spirituali a voce sola e basso continuo”. The book, published by the Historical Association, is a collection of critical essays edited by Cosimo Formichella, Antonio Rea, Eleonora Fonzo and Pietro Di Lorenzo, who will be present to discuss the in-depth interpretations of the published musical manuscript. Prof. Cosimo Formichella, a well-known scholar and collector, brought the original manuscript to light and reconstructed its history, while Prof. Antonio Rea will offer a summary of the poetic and linguistic context of the musical texts. The contributions of Dr. Eleonora Fonzo and Prof. Pietro Di Lorenzo will provide further musicological insights to those present.

Concert: Sweet Spiritual Musical Passions

The second moment of the day will be a concert entitled “Soavi passioni spirituali musicali dal manoscritto Formichella”. The musical performances will be entrusted to Laura Di Giugno, soprano, and Pietro Di Lorenzo on the organ, members of the vocal instrumental and ancient dance group “Ave Gratia Plena”. The program will include a selection of music from the manuscript, a piece by Oratio Michi, and three organ pieces by Giovanni Salvatore, a Neapolitan composer whose studies were completed at the Episcopal Seminary of Cerreto Sannita. This event is organized by the Historical Association of the Telesina Valley in collaboration with the local parish and is part of the 23rd edition of “… dove la musica incontra il suo tempo…”, a project of the Cultural Association “Francesco Durante” and the Cultural Association “Ave Gratia Plena”.
