Napoi, a golden eagle weighing 4 kilograms and with a wingspan of 2 meters, was found lost and in precarious conditions in a rural area of the Naples province.
The animal, named "Gwaihir," received assistance from the Veterinary Service of the ASL Napoli 2 Nord and was subsequently transferred to the Wild Animal Recovery Center (Cras) of the Federico II University, located at the veterinary hospital of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro.
According to the Agi news agency, veterinarians were able to stabilize Gwaihir's condition and discovered that the eagle had an identification ring and a microchip. These findings confirmed that the animal was legally held and had an owner.
In collaboration with the Carabinieri Forestali of the Naples Cites Group, the search for the rightful owner was started. In less than 48 hours from the discovery and after having verified the necessary documentation, Gwaihir was returned to his previous custodian.
