Naples - Tensions are rising in Camaldoli, where residents, exasperated by the spate of thefts, have taken to the streets to demand increased security and the installation of video surveillance cameras, a commitment already promised by the Prefecture.
The fear is that the situation could degenerate, pushing someone to take justice into their own hands.
Exasperation has led residents to organize surveillance patrols and create a chat platform to report suspicious activity in real time and raise the alarm. "Living in fear means not living," says one protester, quoting Buddha, while holding up a sign denouncing their helplessness in the face of constant thefts: "What's the point of reporting if nothing changes?"
The anger prompted citizens to rally in a procession that passed through the neighborhood to raise public awareness and institutions.

Some protesters played recordings of emergency calls sent to the neighborhood chatroom. In one, a woman cries out in desperation: "Help us, we have thieves in our yard!" Incidents like this have already led to chases and attempts to apprehend the suspects, who, however, managed to escape.
The Park of the CamaldoliOnce a hunting area, the area is patrolled by residents, some of whom regularly carry hunting rifles. However, the residents' message is clear: no one wants to take the law into their own hands, but immediate intervention is needed to ensure safety and tranquility. "We don't want to be abandoned; we're asking for more law enforcement and more security cameras," Antonio Varriale, president of the Agnolella Camaldolilli committee and a former Carabiniere, reiterates over a megaphone.
The appeal is addressed to the institutions: the neighborhood does not want to resign itself to fear, but to react.
